RIP, Gabriel

I haven’t mentioned anything here, but I was briefly an uncle. Gabriel Tian Bao Lei-Grégoire was born on May 4th, and died on May 16th. He was nearly three months premature. He spent his short life in the hospital, where ultimately he couldn’t fight off an infection. His mother and father were with him ‘til the end.

I had bought a plane ticket to go to Montreal for the funeral this weekend, but my mother and sister talked me out of going on the grounds that it was too expensive. And my brother (who had a week to recover by this point) said it was okay not to come, but… I wish I were there.

RIP, Gabriel.
